Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see your question answered below, contact me.

  • I do not currently take insurance. I can provide the paperwork needed for reimbursement on a regular basis to clients who have out of network insurance coverage for therapy, and can recommend services that help you to manage out of network reimbursements with minimal effort.

  • First, we’ll have a 20-minute consultation call to make sure I’m a good fit for you. If I’m not, I’ll be able to offer some suggestions for others who may be a good option. If you choose to move forward, I’ll send you a link to get you set up in my practice, and we’ll meet in person or over video at a time and date that works for you.

  • I’m in the Hayes Valley neighborhood in San Francisco, CA, currently seeing clients in person and online.

  • I see clients online and in-person, but have limited availability for in-person sessions.

  • We’ll meet online weekly or bi-weekly online via video. You’ll get a link sent to you at least 24 hours before our appointment, and we’ll meet for 50 minutes. I’ll be available for any questions about the process via email or phone. If for whatever reason there is a connection problem or online sessions are not an option for the week, I’ll offer the option to conduct that week’s session over the phone.

  • My fees are commensurate to fees offered by other providers in the San Francisco Bay Area. I charge strictly on a session-by-session basis and do not offer any other pricing structure. I offer low-cost sliding scale fees to a limited number of clients. As of 2024 my fee is $200 per 50-minute session, but feel free to check in with me about my most up-to-date fee information.

  • In your first session I’ll be aiming to get an idea of what’s bringing you in, what your goals are, and what you think is important to tell me about yourself. I want to make sure that the first session runs at a pace that feels comfortable to you, so I may check in with you about the process (how you’re doing, if you have any feedback, etc.) as well.Item description

  • I don’t believe anyone can give a concrete answer because it ultimately depends on your goals and what you end up getting out of the therapeutic process. In short, though, therapy is available to my clients for as long as they want it. Research shows that many people find significant improvement within 15 sessions, but many people also find a benefit in continuing past that. In my experience, some people find short term therapy (3-6 months) to be valuable, and others benefit from ongoing sessions.

  • I am legally and ethically obligated to keep your records, your attendance in therapy, and the content of our sessions fully confidential. It’s important to me that therapy is your space in which you have control, and I will never share any of the content of our sessions without your permission.

There are a few exceptions to this:

    • If I am legally required to break confidentiality (i.e. if you are a certain and immediate threat to yourself or another person, or if you report child or elder abuse/neglect)

    • If you give me written permission to consult with another provider to coordinate care (a doctor, psychiatrist, etc.)

    • If your records are subpoenaed during legal proceedings
