THERAPY THAT MAKES SENSE

Hi, I’m Alex.

I’m a psychotherapist in San Francisco working with adults and teenagers who are looking to make a change in their lives.

My goal is to provide a compassionate, judgment-free space for us to work through challenges, explore new perspectives, and develop concrete next steps to work through problems.

I believe effective therapy is collaborative, insightful, and practical. You should be walking away from each session feeling heard, understood, and that you understand what we’re doing in therapy.

My approach equally prioritizes the exploration of emotions and the adoption of new coping skills. I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) along with depth-based approaches such as Psychodynamic Therapy and IFS.

HOW I CAN HELP

Specialized treatment tailored to your unique history and needs.

Everyone has a unique story. You’re probably going through something that you can find advice about online, but a lot of it doesn’t apply - it’s ignoring the parts of your situation that are complex, or it’s written for someone else.

I aim to provide treatment that fits into your life, and incorporates what actually works for you. I draw upon a variety of therapy modalities and experience with dozens of clients to help, but I also know that my work is only helpful if it recognizes and supports the ways that your situation is unique.

FAQs

  • Therapy can help with a wide range of issues, from managing anxiety and depression to navigating relationship challenges and major life transitions. It also supports personal growth, helping you understand and address the root causes of stress, low self-esteem, and other subtle but difficult challenges. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain, therapy may be a great place to start finding solutions.

  • Therapy may be beneficial if you're facing challenges that feel difficult to handle alone, whether they’re related to mental health, relationships, or big life decisions. If you're experiencing persistent anxiety, low mood, or stress that affects your daily life, therapy can help you gain perspective, develop coping skills, and find a path forward. Even if you’re just looking for personal growth or self-understanding, therapy can provide a supportive environment to explore these areas.

  • My fee is currently $200 per 50-minute session. Currently, I do not accept insurance; however, many clients are able to get partial reimbursement for out-of-network therapy costs through their insurance providers. I’m happy to provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

  • We’ll talk briefly about what’s been happening for you and discuss your goals for therapy. You’ll have the chance to ask questions about my approach and see if it feels like a good fit. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure way to get a sense of what therapy might look like with me before deciding to start sessions.

  • It can be helpful to ask questions that give you a sense of a therapist’s therapeutic approach, experience, and the overall fit for your needs. You might want to ask about my experience with issues similar to yours, what a typical session looks like, and what kind of goals we might set together. Some people find it helpful to ask questions about the therapist as a person, to get a sense of what their personality is like. Other good questions include how I track progress, which therapeutic methods I use, and my philosophy on change. This is your time to get comfortable and see if our styles align, so feel free to ask anything that will help you feel confident in starting therapy.

  • Your first therapy session is an opportunity to discuss what’s been going on in your life and share your goals for therapy. I’ll ask questions to understand your background and current situation, and you’ll have the chance to ask about my approach and how we’ll work together. The focus is on building a comfortable space for you to speak openly, and together, we’ll start to outline a plan to address your needs.

  • In my experience, both are equally effective - but both have benefits to consider. Online therapy offers flexibility, allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort of your home or office. It’s a great option if you have a busy schedule, live far from the office, or simply prefer the convenience of virtual sessions. In-person therapy can offer a more immersive experience, helping you step away from daily distractions to focus on yourself. Whether online or in-person, I aim to provide effective, tailored support to help you reach your goals.

  • Therapy timelines can vary depending on your goals and the nature of your challenges. Some people start feeling relief within a few sessions, especially if they’re working on a specific concern, while others may benefit from a longer, deeper exploration of patterns and behaviors. Typically, clients begin to notice some difference within the first 4-6 sessions as they build self-awareness, adopt coping strategies, and start making meaningful changes.

  • To prepare for your first session, consider noting down any specific concerns, goals, or questions you’d like to address. Think about what’s been on your mind lately or any patterns you’ve noticed. You don’t need to have everything figured out—just come as you are, ready to speak openly. I’ll help guide the conversation to make sure you feel comfortable and supported as we get started.
